Pyroxsulam Cereal Herbicide – Truly a World Class Performer
Pyroxsulam, the latest addition to the Dow AgroSciences cereal portfolio, is a broad spectrum, postemergence cereal herbicide that provides excellent control of tough grass weeds plus control of key broadleaf weeds.
Dow AgroSciences has received multiple country registrations for its new active ingredient. The first pyroxsulam registration, received in Chile in October 2007, was for ADMITT™ herbicide for use in winter wheat. ADMITT is an excellent tool in the control of grass weeds like brome spp., Italian ryegrass, and wild oat (Avena spp.). In the Chilean cereals market, ADMITT is also an excellent fit providing control of key broadleaves like common hempnettle, mustard spp., geranium spp., speedwell spp., and viola spp.
SIMPLICITY™ herbicide was registered in Canada in January 2008 for use in spring and winter wheat. SIMPLICITY in the western Canadian markets will provide control of key grasses such as wild oats and downy brome. A tank mix of SIMPLICITY with MCPA growth regulator herbicide provides overall excellent control of key broadleaf weeds like cleavers, common hempnettle, chickweed, common lambsquarter, pigweed, wild buckwheat, and volunteer canola. SIMPLICITY™ herbicide offers wheat growers in Western Canada a unique package of very desirable environmental and agronomic features: cross-spectrum weed control; flexibility in crop rotations; the benefit of very low application rates; crop safety for all varieties of spring wheat and durum wheat; tank mix flexibility; plus an effective management option for resistant wild oats.
In February 2008, pyroxsulam was registered as POWERFLEX™ herbicide for use in winter wheat in the United States. Available this spring, POWERFLEX should prove invaluable in the control of key grass weeds including downy brome, cheat, Italian ryegrass, and wild oats. Additionally, POWERFLEX provides control of pigweed, chickweed, cleavers, and many mustard species like field pennycress, flixweed (tansy mustard), shepherdspurse, Jim Hill (tumble) mustard, and blue mustard. POWERFLEX™ herbicide provides U.S. wheat farmers numerous features including excellent crop safety and application flexibility with a wide window of use starting in the fall through early spring. POWERFLEX offers growers improved crop rotation flexibility versus most other winter wheat herbicides. For example, it requires a short nine-month interval for rotating into crops like soybeans, sorghum, peas, lentils, sugarbeets, corn, potatoes, canola, and sunflowers in all geographies. Even shorter intervals for certain crops are labeled in specific geographies.
Most recently, in April 2008, pyroxsulam was registered in Argentina under the trade name of MERIT GOLD™.
Dow AgroSciences and pyroxsulam herbicide: continuing the legacy of providing cereal farmers globally with the innovative chemistries they need to combat grass and broadleaf weeds to produce the cereal grains upon which the world depends …truly world class.
